Investment Fund to Vitalize Early-stage Investment environment: Chung Ju-yung Angel Investment Fund
“We support the early-stage investment environment through a partnership of angel investors, accelerators, and venture capital firms, providing greater financial resources to startups.”
The Korean early-stage investing environment is in its nascent stage, with a lack of private capital and few angel investors or interested venture capital firms. Due to the lack of early-stage investment capital, many entrepreneurs risk their futures by starting their businesses with loans and debt. This makes it harder for them to recover from even a one-time failure, and hinders them from starting again and learning from their failure.
The Chung Ju-yung Angel Investment Fund (KRW 100 billion) was established in February 2012 to provide capital for early-stage startups. The Fund partners with startup investors (i.e. angel investors, venture capitalists, and accelerators) who share a same vision with the foundation to support entrepreneurs. The Foundation also encourages the investment community to take greater action in the startup community to build an open and cooperative environment for entrepreneurs.
As of 2014, the Chung Ju-yung Angel Investment Fund has provided capital financing for approximately 150 startups.
